Advocacy for Generation Digital (A4GD) launches to support youth-led action for a safer digital world

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is pleased to announce the launch of Advocacy for Generation Digital (A4GD), a new curriculum designed to support Girl Guides, Girl Scouts and Member Organisations to enable youth-led advocacy on online safety, digital wellbeing and inclusive digital access.

Alongside the curriculum launch, WAGGGS is also opening a new call for grants to support advocacy initiatives at national and local levels.

Building on the Surf Smart 2.0 curriculum, Advocacy for Generation Digital supports participants to move from learning to action. The curriculum guides groups through a structured advocacy journey, helping them identify digital challenges that matter to them, explore root causes, understand who holds power, and plan and deliver meaningful advocacy projects. Through interactive, learner-led activities, participants develop skills in research, communication, leadership and influencing for change.

From awareness to advocacy

As the digital world continues to shape how people connect, learn and express themselves, risks such as misinformation, online harm, digital exclusion and technology-facilitated violence continue to grow. Advocacy for Generation Digital responds to these challenges by equipping children and young people with the tools, confidence and skills to speak out and engage decision makers to create safer and more inclusive digital spaces — both online and offline.

The curriculum is designed for ages 7+ and offers flexible, age-appropriate pathways for younger, middle and older age groups. Activities can be adapted to different contexts and are suitable for national, local and regional groups across the Movement.

A shared commitment to safer digital spaces

Advocacy for Generation Digital has been developed by WAGGGS with the support of Norton, a Gen cyber safety brand, continuing a shared commitment to promoting digital safety, wellbeing and empowerment. This support builds on the reach and impact of the Surf Smart online safety education programme, which has engaged over 850,000 young people worldwide since its launch in 2011.

Member Organisations are also invited to apply for the new advocacy grants launching alongside the curriculum, which aim to support national and local advocacy action rooted in the A4GD approach.

Together, Advocacy for Generation Digital invites our Movement to strengthen youth leadership, amplify voices and take collective action to shape a safer, fairer digital future for all.
