WAGGGS launches an emergency appeal for a fund to support its Member Organisations involved in the crisis around Ukraine and provide other humanitarian support in response to this emergency.

As our Member Organisations and WAGGGS Regions go through challenges at different times, we strive to support them when they need us most. Girl Guide and Girl Scout solidarity and community support is in our Promise, and enshrined in our Law.

MO direct response activities

At present we know that Member Organisations neighbouring Ukraine are already supporting in many ways. For example, Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego-ZHP (The Polish Scout and Guide Association) has been supporting relief efforts, and are aiming to connect Girl Guides that have fled Ukraine with Guide/Scout families in Poland who will host them in their homes. Volunteers from ZHP, Junák - Czech Scouting-CZ (The Czech Scouts) and Latvijas Skautu un Gaidu Centrālā Organizācija-LSGCO (The Latvian Scouts and Guides Association) are also supporting refugees at border crossings, distributing essential supplies like food, water, clothes, blankets and menstrual supplies.

Other ways to support

The Girl Guides and Girl Scouts have a long history of working for peace through cultural understanding and international friendship. Everyone, everywhere deserves to live in peace.

Advocate for peace.

Show your solidarity with Guides and Scouts, and all of the families – and children – affected by the war in Ukraine. Highlight how it is girls and women who are often disproportionately affected in armed conflicts and that government and civil society responses must take account of this.

Write to a political representative such as a Member of Parliament to express your concern and sadness about the war in Ukraine and armed conflict around the world – sharing your personal view and your own voice is most powerful.
