To make the Helen Storrow Seminar 2025 possible we are looking for...

  • Facilitators with strong non-formal facilitation skills, who can also demonstrate expertise in at least one of the following areas:
    • The WAGGGS leadership model
    • Environment and sustainability
    • Advocacy and/or social entrepreneurship and social change
    • Virtual experiences and blended learning
  • Highly flexible people who thrive in international environments and are keen to try new ideas and approaches to facilitation and leadership development
  • Creative minds who are passionate about empowering young women to find innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
  • Strong English communication skills.

Facilitator Role and Responsibilities:

As part of the HSS Planning Team, facilitators will design, prepare and deliver a high-quality programme to HSS participants that supports their learning and growth as leaders of environmental change.

  • Active participation in the preparation of the Helen Storrow Seminar (including virtual meetings to take ownership of the programme and create content or activities if needed and as agreed with the other facilitators).
  • Facilitation of several sessions during the event (including facilitation of virtual international connections during sessions).
  • Support participants in their learning journey during and after the event (observe participants’ engagement and adapt sessions when needed, be a patrol mentor for a small group of participants, after the event support them in their project planning).

Lead Facilitator Role and Responsibilities:

Working with the HSS Lead Volunteer, HSS Planning Team and Our Chalet, the Lead Facilitotor will be a part of co-creating the 2025 Helen Storrow Seminar. Their role is to oversee the facilitators in the design and delivery of a high-quality programme for participants that meets the HSS learning outcomes.

  • Support facilitators to take ownership of the programme (organise virtual meetings for the team, give feedback on session drafts, help their personal growing and learning).
  • Ensure that participants have a quality learning experience (follow the WAGGGS approach using the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Educational Method and Leadership Model, support the effective facilitation of sessions, help to put the safeguarding policy into action).
  • Be a part of monitoring and evaluating the HSS (apply learnings from past HSS events, continuously review the quality of the programme, evaluate and report at the end of the event).

Time commitment

HSS Planning Team members are expected to commit to the role for a full year. The work will be laid out in three phases:

August 2024 – February 2025: Preparation of the event. Preparation will be done virtually; it will include training for planning team members and up to two virtual meetings a month (approximately ten hours per month).

30 January - 9 February 2025: Delivery of the event. Facilitators should be fully available to come deliver the event at Our Chalet for ten days (two days preparation, seven days event and one day debrief). The Planning Team will be expected to be available to arrive in Switzerland on 30th January 2025 and leave on 9th February 2025. Please note that the event will run in English only.

February – July 2025: Follow-up after the event. Facilitators are expected to support the follow-up (approximately two hours per month) of the event with participants (including patrol reunions, managing the Campfire group, etc.)

Please note – the Lead Facilitator role will require extra time commitment for meetings, review of sessions and report writing.

You can choose whether to write your answers to these questions in the Microsoft Form or record a short video of yourself answering these questions (up to 2-3 minutes long) - and upload it following the instructions found in the Microsoft Form.

  1. To be able to take up a volunteering opportunity for WAGGGS you need to be active in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in your Member Organisation and part of the WAGGGS Volunteer Network. You can apply for these roles without being a network member yet, but you should start your application to join.
