A message from the World Board Chair

World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship celebrated by girl guides and girl scouts all over the world.  A day in the year when we pause to reflect on the power of the Movement and to connect with guides from all over the world.

This year’s World Thinking Day celebrates the theme of “leadership,” and is dedicated to the group of girls who demanded change in the Scouting World Thinking Day 2019 - covermovement in 1909 and asked Lord Baden -Powell to create “something for the girls”.

The World Thinking Day activity pack: Leadership - 110 Years of Adventure,  has been designed to enable groups to go on a time travel journey to learn the history of our Movement and to practice leadership skills. From the moment you promise “to do my best” you step into a world that nurtures and celebrates who you are, and what you can bring to the world around you.

As we celebrate Lady Olave Baden-Powell’s birthday, along with a host of other activities, we are asking girls from right across the world to join in and share their stories about leadership with us and each other on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with TimetoLead and #WTD2019.

Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting continues to offer extraordinary opportunities to girls and young women to develop and lead and take action to make a positive change in their communities. I’d like to express my deep gratitude to our more than 1.5 million dedicated volunteers whose effort and enthusiasm day after day, all year round is inspiring.

We share this special day with the World Scout Movement whose members are also honouring sisters and brothers around the world.  By working together and learning from each other we can make an even bigger impact, reach more girls, make more change and create a more equal, safe and happy world for every girl.

Enjoy World Thinking Day 2019.

Best Wishes,

Ana Maria Mideros
