World Thinking Day 2020 - In Our Hands

22 February 2020 marks the 94th World Thinking Day, a day of international friendship. Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world come together with one voice to celebrate the Movement, share their thanks and appreciation, and fundraise in honour of our founders.

When we started to think last year about the themes for World Thinking Day, we began a journey through a set of three themes:

Leadership

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Peacebuilding

Last year, girls worldwide went on an exciting time travel to learn the history of our Movement and practise their leadership skills through the WAGGGS Leadership Model.

This year’s World Thinking Day game, Living Threads, builds on this theme to help us explore worldly leadership – seeing the world from the perspective of others, promoting equity and fostering inclusion. We are so proud to continue the story with you.

Through Living Threads, we explore the themes of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. When individual threads are woven together, they form something bigger and stronger. We are just like those threads, all unique and of equal value.

As you celebrate World Thinking Day, take a moment to reflect with us on how you can put equity and inclusion into practice, and celebrate the diversity of your communities and beyond. We aspire to a diverse and inclusive world and that starts with ourselves.

That’s why, as our World Thinking Day commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, we are driving for a minimum of two World Board members to be under 30 by 2023. We believe that the World Board must better represent the voices of the young women that we stand for. What is your commitment to a more inclusive world?

Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting continues to offer extraordinary opportunities to girls and young women to learn, lead and take action for positive change as global citizens. We want to thank each of the more than 1.5 million volunteers worldwide for your dedication to creating these life-changing experiences for young people. Your enthusiasm inspires and guides us every day.

We cannot wait to see the World Thinking Day activities in every part of the globe.

Best wishes,

Ana Maria Mideros & Sarah Nancollas
Chair of the World Board & Chief Executive
