STANDING FOR PEACE FOR HER WORLD

World Board (April 2024)

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) stands in solidarity with all those affected by armed conflict, advocating lasting peace and expressing deep concern about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to UN Women and WHO, tens of thousands of people have tragically lost their lives, with approximately 70% of the casualties being women and children.

More than 1 in 6 children worldwide (approximately 468 million) live in areas affected by conflict based on information from Save the Children and UNICEF.

The enduring effects of conflict, including poverty, disruption to livelihoods and education, as well as adverse impacts on physical and mental health, have long-term consequences for these children and their communities.

As an organization committed to empowering girls and young women to realise their fullest potential as responsible global citizens, we see the effects of ongoing humanitarian crises on young people around the world.

Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting has a long history of working for peace through cultural understanding and international friendship. We are deeply connected to one another; when one of us is suffering, we are all affected.

United in a desire for peace and security for all, WAGGGS stands in solidarity with all those affected by conflict, irrespective of their nationality, sex, race, ethnicity, language, religion or any other status. Our hearts are particularly with all young people living in fear and uncertainty.

Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting is committed to fostering a culture of peace, understanding, and mutual respect. We firmly believe in the power of dialogue and the importance of providing young people with the skills and opportunities to lead as agents of change in their communities. Together we must contribute to creating a world where everyone can live in safety with dignity, free from violence and fear.

WAGGGS stands with efforts to create lasting peace.
