Development of the Movement

Girl Guides in South Sudan have been operating as Girl Guides Association of Sudan with their headquarters in Khartoum, Sudan. The government of South Sudan fully recognises the Girl Guides Movement and has registered the association under the Ministry of Justice as a voluntary youth organisation.

The Guides National Executive Board is actively re-launching Girl Guiding by recruiting members with the support of State Guide Commissioners assisted by State governing assemblies in the eight states of the country. The membership is growing. The Girl Guides Movement is visible in the country and given a lot of prominence by the government and the through the media.

The South Sudan Girl Guides constitution was approved by the World Board and the association welcomed to WAGGGS Africa Region at the WAGGGS World conference that took place in Hong Kong in July 2014. The government of South Sudan was represented at the conference by the National Deputy Minister of the Education.
