Africa Regional Committee

The Regional Committee is responsible for the development of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in the Region and in particular for the implementation the WAGGGS strategy thought the Triennial Action Plan.

The six members of the Regional Committee are elected by the Member Organisations at the Regional Conference for a period of three years. Members may be re-elected for an additional period, thus serving a maximum of six years.

At least two of the Committee members must be young women under 30 years of age at the time of the election.

World Board Member & Africa Region Committee Chair, July 2025 - Present

Elizabeth Chatuwa has been an active member of the Malawi Girl Guides Association since 2008, beginning her journey as a young leader. Over the years, he has held various leadership roles, including District Youth Commissioner, National Youth Commissioner, and board member responsible for national training. Currently, as the Africa Region Chair, she is also a certified WAGGGS International Trainer, passionate about building the leadership capacity of others through quality training. Elizabeth finds great purpose in supporting youth development and creating inclusive spaces for girls and young women. In her personal life, she values service, learning, and creating impact in every space she occupies.

Professionally, she works with NBS Bank as the ICT Manager responsible for digital banking systems.

Fausta Monsi joined the Association des Guides du Bénin at the age of nine after a recruitment drive organised by the Guides at her school.
Discovering an environment that allowed her creative abilities and talents to work for a common cause hooked her and kept her involved in Guiding.
A Human Resources Training Manager, she now works in the field of Communication & Sustainable Development.
Through Guiding, I developed an active social life. I have a passion for events, and I enjoy contributing to the well-being of others. I needed to do something that combined all of this and was in tune with who I am,’ she confides.
Fausta MONSI is fluent in French. Her English is intermediate level, and her Spanish is basic. She describes herself as an optimistic person who loves art, travelling and dreaming of ‘a world full of wonders where people from all over the world share their joy...

Annie is from Madagascar. She has begun her girl guiding journey at Fanilon'i Madagasikara Catholic Girl Guides Association since she was 12 years old. Through her 18 years of volunteering and leadership engagement within the Movement, from Unit Leader to District Commissioner and National Commissioner for Education – National Training Lead, she became the Head Team of Training and Adult Development.

Furthermore, she has 13 years of strategic commitment as Board Member of Skotisma Zazavavy Malagasy Federation by implementing global and regional initiatives and programmes for Madagascar. She already served at the Global level as Our Chalet World Centre Volunteer, Membership Services Working Group member, Juliette Low Seminar (Leadership Flagship)/JLS 2019 Facilitator, Meaningful Youth Participation Specialist, WAGGGS Facilitator (accreditation in progress) and received a Wagggs Honorary Associate award. Having Malagasy as her mother tongue, she is fluent in French, English, Italian, basic Spanish, and enjoys travelling and sports. Moreover, after studying abroad, she decided to come back to her home country and has 12 years of professional experience in international projects for sustainable development and the girl’s protection, including 8 years as a Technical Advisor for an International Cooperation for Development Agency. As a WAGGGS Regional Committee member, she wants to work closely with Member Organizations to support the development of girls, young people, and adults so that they can use their full potential and lead to impact on more lives in the Africa Region, whose actions cannot be missed.

Over the years, as a Girl Guide and young leader, I’ve grown through service, leadership, governance and advocacy.
I’ve led impactful projects on girls’ education, body confidence, menstrual health, sustainable development goals and empowering young girls and women on financial sustainability through social entrepreneurship. I value collaboration, creativity, and results that truly make a difference.
I believe in using technology to connect, amplify, and transform communities.

Frances is a proud and devoted Girl Guide whose journey in the Movement began about 20years ago. Her passion for empowering girls and creating safe, inclusive spaces has been the driving force behind her leadership. She has served in various capacities at the National level and was recently the youngest member of her MO’s National Council. As a YESS and JLS alumna, Frances brings a global perspective to her work, championing youth leadership and girl-led action. She is known for her creativity, team spirit, and unwavering commitment to girl empowerment. Whether leading sessions, coordinating events or projects, or inspiring others, Frances remains dedicated to building a world where every girl feels confident and capable of making a difference.

Marie-Laure loves Girl Guiding. She has been involved in Girl Guiding since childhood. She is a member of the Ivorian Federation of Girl Scouts and has spent her entire career within the Catholic Girl Guides Association of Côte d'Ivoire. She has served as National Commissioner for the Catholic Girl Guides of Côte d'Ivoire and International Commissioner for the Ivorian Federation of Girl Scouts. She is a civil servant in her country and works in the finance sector.

Participating in Girl Guiding all these years has deepened her interest in all causes affecting girls and women.

Through her involvement on the committee, she hopes to contribute to the development of her region by offering quality experiences to Junior Leaders (MOs) and young leaders; by encouraging and supporting MOs in increasing their numbers by facilitating the exchange of best practices among MOs; and by continuing to impact the lives of many girls and women in Africa through concrete actions.

In addition to all this, she enjoys discovering other cultures, travelling, and dancing.
