Through our 153 Member Organisations, and by working directly with girls and young women across the world, we pride ourselves with delivering high quality non-formal education programmes and international opportunities. We aim to give girls and young women dynamic, flexible and values-based training in life skills, leadership and citizenship.
All of our activities and programmes fall within four broad areas of social change that contribute to our global vision of all girls and young women being valued and taking action to change the world.
Learn
Through a unique values based non-formal educational approach, Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting creates empowering youth learning experiences. This is defined by everything that a young person experiences as a Girl Guide or Girl Scout over the time they are taking part in the youth programme. It's what they do (activities), how they do it (methods) and why they do it (purpose). The key to creating relevant youth learning experiences for our youth members is our unique Girl Guide and Girl Scout educational method. Used well, it creates a learning environment where young people can take the lead and make choices about what they do. By using the method effectively, leaders will empower youth members and any programme activity can become relevant and exciting.

Lead
Leadership is at the core of the Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting Movement. It runs through everything we do, from succession planning for our Member Organisation’s national boards to empowering girls and young women to stand up and speak out on issues affecting them, to being a leader within one self to make positive choices.
To help girls and young women realise their full potential and contribute to the development of their communities, nationally and globally, we have developed an excellent WAGGGS Leadership Development Programme (WLDP). The WLDP consists of eight modules, each covering a topic area that enhances leadership skills and personal growth and which supports national Girl Guide and Girl Scout associations in their growth and continued development.
To equip leaders with the best possible skills in providing the WLDP, we have created the National Leadership Development Programmes (NLDP) – a programme aimed in training the trainers and building the capacity for further innovation in context-specific leadership development.
A big part of the leadership programme is also the Juliette Low Seminars, first started in 1932 as an opportunity for young women to develop international leadership and friendship and understanding skills. The seminars became a continued tradition that lives on today and takes place at one of the WAGGGS world centres every triennium.

Speak out
WAGGGS not only speaks out on behalf of girls and young women everywhere, but also empowers young women to advocate for themselves. For us, advocacy means influencing people to take decisions that will improve our lives and the lives of others.
How do we do this?
We influence people by speaking, doing and educating, in decision-making (for example change policies or regulations, allocate funding, provide support), that will improve our life and the lives of others (the result we are trying to achieve).

Volunteer
Giving service in the community has been a core value of Girl Guiding and Girls Scouting for over 100 years. Our Movement would not be where it is today without our 1.5 million volunteers - from the leaders who support girls and young women in local groups, to our World Board members.
Volunteering with Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting is incredibly rewarding. If you would like to get involved, visit our Jobs and Opportunities pages to find out how you can join the WAGGGS family.
