Exploring how AI can reinforce violence against women and girls, and how we can shape a safer world.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping how girls and young women learn, communicate, express themselves and experience the digital world. While AI offers exciting possibilities, it can also reflect and reinforce existing gender biases, inequalities and forms of violence.

From deepfakes and non-consensual image generation to online harassment, surveillance and biased content moderation, AI can create new risks and amplify existing harms against women and girls.

As part of WAGGGS’ Stop the Violence campaign, this activity pack has been developed to help Girl Guides and Girl Scouts explore these issues, build digital awareness and take action towards a safer, fairer and more inclusive digital future.

What is this activity pack about?

AI, Gender and Violence: An Activity Pack for Learning and Action is an interactive educational resource designed to help girls and young women understand AI, critically explore its impact and recognise how technology can be used to facilitate gender-based violence.

Through practical activities, group discussions and reflection, participants will explore how AI appears in everyday life, how it can reinforce harmful stereotypes, and what individuals and communities can do to promote safer digital spaces.

The pack also encourages girls and young women to raise their voices and contribute to wider conversations about accountability and the need for fairer, more responsible AI regulation.

What’s inside the pack?

The resource is organised into three parts:

What is AI?

Explore how AI works, where it appears in everyday life, and how filters, algorithms and online content can influence our experiences and perceptions.

AI and gender-based violence

Investigate how AI can reinforce gender bias and enable harm, explore real-world stories, and learn to recognise potentially unsafe online situations.

Take action

Move from awareness to action through personal reflection, local conversations and global advocacy for a safer digital world.

The pack also includes guidance for leaders, practical activity instructions, discussion prompts, printable handouts and suggestions for creating a supportive space where participants can learn and share comfortably.

Who is it for?

The activity pack is designed for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across different age groups and sections. Activities can be adapted to suit participants’ ages, experiences and learning needs.

No prior knowledge of AI is required. Leaders can run the activities as a single session of up to three hours or divide them across shorter meetings.

The pack includes guidance on safeguarding and creating a brave space, helping leaders approach sensitive topics thoughtfully and support participants throughout the session.

Take action this 16 Days of Activism

Every year, from 25 November to 10 December, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence brings people together to raise awareness, stand in solidarity with survivors and take action to end violence against women and girls.

This year, join the conversation about AI and gender-based violence. Use the activity pack with your group, encourage girls to question the technology they encounter, and create opportunities for them to share their ideas for a safer digital future.

Download the pack and help make girls’ voices part of the conversation about AI. English, Arabic, Spanish, French.
