In North Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf Region, Girl Guiding is bringing girls and young women opportunities for personal development, education and professional development.

Our history

Libyan Girl Guides in the 60s

The Arab Region was launched in Egypt in 1924. In 1966 the first Arab Conference took place in Libya to prepare for the establishment of the Arab Region Girl Guides Bureau. Two years later Ms. Bahia Abd Al Nabi was elected as the first coordinator of the Arab Region Bureau.

The office was formally recognised by WAGGGS in 1973. Finally in 1999 the Arab Region became the 5th WAGGGS region.

Our goals are to:

  • Increase involvement of young women in decision making
  • Further the advancement of girls and young women
  • Promote unity of purpose and common understanding based on the fundamental principles
  • Offer regular seminars and workshops for participants to develop their leadership qualities
