What will the weather be like when we visit?
Will it be snowing? Will it rain? Do I need sunscreen?
The weather in Adelboden is quite variable and it is very hard to predict what the weather will be like on any particular day. Snow is likely between late November and early April.
You can find average temperatures for each month here.
The weather can change rapidly and vary greatly between valley and mountain altitudes. We recommend guests bring plenty of layers, a full set of waterproofs, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses whatever time of year you visit.
How do I get to Our Chalet?
We encourage guests to travel to Our Chalet via public transport. We have limited car parking available on site for those who choose to drive. For full details of how to get here see the Travelling to Our Chalet page.
Please note coaches are not able to drive all the way to Our Chalet. In summer most coach drivers can drop groups off at the bottom of Hohliebeweg. From there it is a 5-10 minute uphill walk to Our Chalet. In winter coaches will need to drop passengers off at the bottom of Bonderlenstrasse, from which it is a 20-30 min uphill walk to Our Chalet.
For guests arriving by public transport or coach Our Chalet is able to offer luggage transfer during office hours, this must be booked at least 48 hours in advance and costs CHF5 per person.
I am not able to walk up the hill, do you offer transport for guests?Unfortunately, Our Chalet is not usually able to offer transport for guests, with the exception of ski shuttles in the winter. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible for one or two people to travel in the van with the luggage. Please e-mail email@example.com to find out if this is possible with your arrival.
Taxis from Oey bus stop to Our Chalet can be booked through AFA, who also run the local bus service. Prices and contact details for booking can be found here.
Is there a shop? What currency do you accept? Do you accept credit cards?
Chalet has a small shop selling souvenirs, postcards, stamps, and snacks. The
shop is usually open from 08:00-09:30 and 16:00-18:00 (winter) or 16:30-18:30
(summer). Opening hours may vary and are posted on the shop window.
We are able to accept cash in Swiss Francs only, we cannot accept Euros or any other currency. We accept all major credit and debit cards with an admin fee of 3.5% per transaction.
Can we buy groceries/toiletries at Our Chalet?
The Our Chalet shop sells a small range of snacks including soft drinks, chocolate, ice cream, crisps/chips, and fruit. The shop does not sell toiletries.
Groups using the campsite or Squirrel House can order groceries using our self-catering order form, this must be submitted at least two weeks prior to arrival.
The nearest grocery store/supermarket is Coop in Adelboden, a 45-60 min walk from Our Chalet. There is a small bakery/convenience store next to Oey bus stop, a 20-30 min walk from Our Chalet. Please note that most shops in Adelboden, including Coop, are closed on Sundays.
Do you cater to special diets/allergies?
Our Chalet’s kitchen facilities are operated by volunteer staff and all dietary requirements are catered for to the best of the Centre’s ability. We cannot guarantee food to be 100% free of any specific allergen. Guests with food allergies eat Our Chalet meals at their own risk.
Guests must notify Our Chalet of all dietary requirements at least two weeks in advance of their visit, or at the time of booking meals, whichever is earliest. Notification later than this may mean Our Chalet is not able to cater for the required special diet. In some cases special diet meals may be offered only at an additional cost. Guests with severe and/or contact allergies must note this on their Passenger Manifest and be aware that we cannot guarantee that other guests will not bring allergens on to the Our Chalet site.
Do you have WiFi?
WiFi is available in our common areas. To use the WiFi you will need to purchase a login code from our shop. Codes are available for 1 hour (CHF 1), 3 hours (CHF 2.50) and 24 hours (CHF 6). Each code will work on one device (e.g. phone, tablet, laptop) only. Please note codes are only available to purchase during shop opening hours.
One leader per group will receive one free code that will work on one device for the duration of the group’s stay.
What should I bring?
The kit list asks for lunch box, can you provide details? Is it really necessary?
A lunch box is a reusable, often plastic, box in which you can keep your lunch without the need for single-use bags. In the USA some call the smaller versions sandwich keepers. Click here to see an example. A small lunch bag is also suitable, whichever version you bring it should be compact enough to fit in your backpack with everything else you need for hiking/day trips.
At Our Chalet we do not provide sandwich bags/Ziploc bags for packed lunches, you will need to bring your own container for your packed lunch. A lunch box/bag may be available to purchase from our shop but we cannot guarantee to have these in stock at all times.
Why does the kit list say no jeans for hiking?
Jeans retain moisture instead of wicking it away, therefore once jeans get wet, it takes a long time to dry. This moisture on your skin draws away body heat leaving you not only cold and miserable, but more susceptible to hypothermia and chafing. It's better not to risk ruining your holiday by wearing the wrong clothing!
Do you have laundry facilities? How much do these cost?
We have two washing machines (washers) and two dryers available for guests to use. The cost is CHF 3 per cycle in the washing machine and CHF 3 per 90 mins in the dryer. Laundry detergent is available and included in this cost. We also have a small area available to line dry clothing.
Can we visit for the day? What activities do you offer for day visitors?
We welcome day visitors for guided tours, pinning ceremonies, and self-guided tours. Details can be found here. Please note we are not open to day visitors every day and we are only able to accept a limited number of visitors per guided tour, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to book your visit.
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer any other programme activities for day visitors.
How do I pay my deposit?
Details of how to make a payment can be found on the second page of your booking contract. To pay by credit or debit card please call us during office hours with your credit card details. Please note there is a 3.5% admin fee per transaction.
