Winter 2020 Update

Due to the impact of the COVID19 pandemic on travel and tourism, the WAGGGS World Board has made the difficult decision to cease activities at all the WAGGGS World Centres in 2021. We hope the FAQ on this page will answer any questions you have about this decision and what it means for those with current bookings and the future of Our Chalet.

FAQ

Why is Our Chalet ceasing activities? Wasn’t the Centre up and running again in the second half of 2020?
The decision was made by WAGGGS taking account of the situation at all five of the World Centres and the predicted ability of groups to travel safely in 2021. Whilst Our Chalet had been operating again since mid-July 2020, Pax Lodge, Sangam, and Kusafiri had been unable to safely re-open. Additionally, limits on travel meant Our Chalet was operating at a lower capacity than usual and this was predicted to continue to be the case for at least the first half of 2021.

What does ceasing activities mean? Will there still be staff working at Our Chalet in 2021? Will Our Chalet continue to offer virtual programme? Can we visit for a day tour in Summer 2021? At the moment the details of the decision are still being worked out. We do not yet have information about staffing or virtual programme. We will update this page as soon as we have more information to share.

I have a booking for 2021, will I get a full refund? Can I keep the booking and move it to 2022 or 2023?
All 2021 bookings, whether for an independent stay or a programme event, can be moved to 2022 or 2023. Alternatively, you can opt to receive a full refund (excluding bank fees). Our Guest Services team will be reaching out to everyone with a confirmed booking for 2021. If you have not heard from our team, please e-mail info@ourchalet.wagggs.org with your booking details and any preferred dates you would like to move your booking to. You can find a list of 2022 event dates here and 2023 dates will be uploaded soon.

Can I support Our Chalet by purchasing items from your shop? Can I make a donation directly to Our Chalet?
Yes! We are very grateful for donations to support the future of Our Chalet. You can make a donation using this link.

We do not currently have an online shop, but we are able to take orders via e-mail. You can order Our Chalet branded badges, pins, water bottles, clothing and more. Browse the Our Chalet Shop Catalogue and find the items you'd like to order. Make a note of the colours and sizes you'd like to order then email your order toinfo@ourchalet.wagggs.org

Our team will reply to your email confirming the cost of your order (which will include postage and packaging) and giving details of how to make a payment.

When will Our Chalet re-start activities? I have a booking for Summer 2022, will our visit be able to go ahead? How will I make payments due in 2021?
We do not yet have details of an exact date for re-starting activities. However, we expect to be operating fully again by Summer 2022 and do not currently anticipate needing to cancel any existing 2022 bookings. We do not yet have details of staffing for 2021 but we expect the main e-mail inbox (info@ourchalet.wagggs.org) will be monitored and payments will continue to be processed as needed. We will update this page and contact everyone with a confirmed 2022 booking if this changes.

I have a provisional or confirmed volunteer placement for 2021, will my placement go ahead? If not, can I move my placement to 2022?
We will not be able to offer volunteer placements in 2021. We will be contacting all volunteers with confirmed placements directly to discuss the possibility of transferring placements to a future year. This option will depend on a number of factors, including visa/work permit regulations for individual volunteers.

I want to volunteer in 2022, when can I apply for a volunteer placement?
We do not yet know when we will be able to offer our first volunteer placements in 2022, nor do we have details of the plan for staff at Our Chalet in 2021. Therefore we are not currently able to say when applications for 2022 volunteer placements will open. We will update this page when we have more information.

I had enquired about virtual programme for my group and was told we could book a session in mid-December 2020, will this still be possible?
We do not yet have details of how virtual programme will be affected or staffing at Our Chalet for the end of 2020. We will update this page as soon as we have more information.

I have/would like to make a booking for Christmas, will these events still go ahead? Can I book to stay at Our Chalet in December 2020?

We will have limited spaces available over the Christmas period. If you are interested in visiting us at Christmas please send an email to info@ourchalet.wagggs.org giving details of dates you would like and the number of guests. One of the team will get back to you as soon as they can.
