Our Cabana was officially set up in 1957 in Mexico. This summer they are busy getting ready for the Western Hemisphere Regional Conference which they are hosting, as well as enjoying welcoming new staff and volunteers.
“Summer 2013 at Our Cabana is promising to be busy and full of new experiences. With our normal events we will also host independent groups for the Western Hemisphere Regional Conference as well as summer courses for local children.
Last week it was great to have a pizza lunch and games with our Mexican staff and to think about our summer ahead. Games included a pass the parcel with multiple choice questions about the summer, questions included how many lunches will be served to participants this summer (2,070) and how many hours will our volunteers spend in a bus going on a trip with our participants. We finished the afternoon by everyone putting their handprint on a wall outside the program office which will, be done by all staff and volunteers for summer 2013.
Rodolfo, who has worked at Our Cabana for 7 years as a gardener, says “I am excited for the summer ahead. Our Cabana is a beautiful place and I hope our visitors have a good experience at Our Cabana and in Mexico.”
Esperanza, who has worked at Our Cabana for 10 years as a cook says “I am very pleased to be working with this group of staff this summer. I look forward to welcoming the participants and I hope even more people book to come to Our Cabana.”
We are excited to have welcomed our first international volunteers and will, during the summer, have 11 volunteers at different times working with us.”
Our Cabaña is located in Cuernavaca, the “city of eternal spring,” and is set among over 5 acres of beautiful tropical gardens. Our Cabaña can accommodate up to 90 guests in eight large dormitory rooms as well as double guest rooms.
There is a dining room, called Xochicalli (house of flowers), where they serve an international menu, and a Great Hall, Mixcoacalli (house where people meet to sing and dance) is the program room where there are indoor activities, evening programs, fiestas, and much more.
Recreation facilities at Our Cabaña include a swimming pool, a volleyball court and tennis court as well as a fire circle and a craft house where visitors can make native crafts or see the colourful display of Mexican ceramics, beadwork, sculptures and more.
