The day started with identifying what we wanted to achieve…going beyond the walls of Our Cabaña into the city of Cuernavaca. It was advocacy in motion. Through our exciting treasure hunt we discovered the eight guidelines to effective advocacy. We brought them back to Our Cabaña and put them into action. After creating our plan, our groups were given 20 minutes to create our one-minute “Stop the Violence” campaign which we presented to mock NGOs, Banks, Community Members and Member Organizations.
We learned that you have to be passionate about something if you expect others to be passionate. We also learned you will not always get support from organizations, but that should not stop you. Through these exercises we created our definition of advocacy:
Advocacy involves being educated enough to make good decisions which influence others and helps them to become inspired enough to change their own lives.
