62nd Commission on the Status of Women

WAGGGS delegates represented the voices of 10 million girls and young women at CSW62 in March 2018

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global policy making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the advancement of women. Every year, representatives of UN Member States gather at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. They evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and the advancement of women worldwide.

Each year, the Commission on the Status of Women focuses on particular themes. For 2018 the themes were: 

Priority theme: The challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.

Review theme: Participation in and access of women to the media, and information and communications technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women.

Why do we attend?

WAGGGS has been attending CSW each year for the last decade, using the conference as an opportunity to advocate for the rights of girls and young women and directly engage with decision makers. 

The 62nd session, from 13 to 23 of March, provideded an opportunity to speak out on behalf of 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world and ensure their voices were heard.
