My name is Magdalene Anthony Utouh, and I’ll be representing Tanzania at the Juliette Low Seminar 2016. I’m excited beyond measure about my upcoming trip to Kusafiri for the event in Ghana!
I had initially applied for the seminar out of curiosity. I wanted to expand my leadership skills so that I could become more useful to my member organization, the Tanzania Girl Guide Association, and support them to implement WAGGGS initiatives.
The day I received the email confirming my place on the Juliette Low Seminar was my birthday! That one small moment got my birthday off to an amazing start! I was overjoyed and immediately started spreading the news to my loved ones. I didn’t have the funds and I didn’t know where to get the money, but the fact that I had been accepted for the Juliette Low Seminar was enough reason for me to celebrate and feel lucky.
Thanks to the donors, my member organization, and my family, everything slowly came together. I’m now in the last few days before I leave for Ghana, and I am working my way around the city, visiting stores and market stalls to pick up the last few things I need for my most awaited moment. It’s a dream come true for me to have my first international experience as a Girl Guide representing the young women of Tanzania Girl Guides for Juliette Low Seminar 2016.
After the seminar, I hope to contribute in taking the Tanzania Girl Guide Association to the next level in implementing WAGGGS initiatives. I’m especially excited to get the membership strategy in place to impact the lives of more girls and young women around me on my return.
