Hope Mason - Costa Rica

In July of 2014 Hope Mason and a group of her fellow members and leaders from Girlguiding North West England set off for Costa Rica as a part of a trip organised by Guides of Costa Rica. They travelled the country, from the capital San Jose to Pacuare Nature Reserve and Monteverde. While in the country they had the chance to spend time with Scout and Guide groups, sharing their culture, swapping gifts and simply enjoying the time they could spend together.

The girls took part in environmental activities such as clear-ups, turtle conservation work and joining wildlife patrols. Staying in the Santa Elena Nature Reserve they were able to fully immerse themselves in a new, exotic and wonderful environment, tasting strange and new foods, climbing among the forest canopy and even working to maintain forest paths.

“This grant enabled me to experience first-hand what a powerful gift the gift of Guiding is in making a positive change in the lives of Girls across the world. The grant provided me with the opportunity to inspire others in a love of international adventures and allow them to connect with their worldwide family of Guiding sisters”

Hannah Foxon

Hannah Foxon and 12 members of her Guides and Senior Section made the trip to Sri Lanka from July to August 2014. They travelled there to work in a children’s home for girls with severe learning difficulties, driven by the values developed through Guiding and Scouting to share the knowledge and skills which they had acquired. While there, they were also able to support Sri Lankan Girl Guides with the Stop the Violence campaign and spent time with their fellow members, sharing experiences and culture.

The event seems to have had a great impact upon Hannah who took on the role as International Advisor for her County upon returning, inspired by all that she had seen and learn on her trip.

Hannah Stanton - CSW 58, New York

Hannah Stanton went to New York to attend CSW 58 as part of the official WAGGGS delegation, supported by the Anne Scott Fund.

"This is one way of summarizing the time spent during CSW - little sleep, a lot of action, and a lot of changing the world for the better, deeply rooted in our beliefs as girl guides and girl scouts. It was a truly life changing experience for me, and hopefully many, that is hard to put in words, but I will do my best."
