Our Chalet Family Spring 2016
Our Chalet and Volunteer Staff Team Spring 2016
Tanya Tulloch (USA) : Our Chalet World Centre Manager
Tanya comes to us from Beaverton, Oregon where she worked for Columbia River Girl Scout Council for 12 years as a Manager. As a Girl Scout growing up in Kentucky she liked to participate in adventure activities such as rapelling, hiking and camping. She has fallen in love with snow sports in her adult life inthe Cascade Mountains.
The idea of reaching the mission of WAGGGS through the outdoor adventure and leadership experiences has drawn Tanya to work at Our Chalet. Her background with camp management, volunteer development and strategic planning will help her to add to the team as a World Centre Manager. She is looking forward to meeting Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and other guests from all over the world while she is here.
Nikki Tucker (UK) : Deputy World Centre Manager, Operations
Nikki comes from Warwick in the UK and has been involved in Girlguiding for many years. She fell in love with Our Chalet on the first visit and has since visited many times before becoming a member of the Long Term Staff team. Nikki is a big fan of the outdoors and is relishing the mountain air and the fantastic hikes. In her spare time she is passionate about music and plays tenor horn. She and her husband play in the Adelboden Salvation Army Band and also the Brass Band of Frutigen. In any remaining spare time she loves to travel.
Jennamari Terävä (Finland) : Deputy World Centre Manager, Programme
Jennamari is from Heinola, Finland and became a Girl Guide practically at birth. Jen’s Our Chalet story began as a volunteer in winter 2007, and even though she has been back to Finland to finish her studies, half of her heart has stayed at the Chalet since the beginning. She is very excited to be back and determined to channel all her energy into making the programme as fun, challenging and exciting as possible. Jen is a keen hiker and an avid skier, and she spends her remaining free time singing, running, climbing, sledding, sleeping in strange places, getting stuck in trees, learning languages (especially Swiss German) and admiring all the pretty flowers – Our Chalet is definitely the right place for her!
Malin Huusmann (Sweden) : Guest Services Co-Ordinator
‘Hej!’ as we say in Sweden. My name is Malin and
I am part of the operations team here at Our Chalet. I make bookings, issue
bills, prepare check-in and make sure that our guests feel welcome. I was born
and raised in Upplands Väsby, a suburb of Stockholm. I became a scout when I
was eleven years old, and I continued on to be a scout leader and ‘paper scout’
for many years. Before coming to Switzerland I worked in travel, and I also
have a photography business on the side. My camera and I have many Swiss adventures
to look forward to! If I have any free time left over you will probably find me
experimenting in a kitchen somewhere since I am a foodie who loves everything
related to cooking or baking.
Sarah Wach (USA) : Programme Co-Ordinator
Hello! I am Sarah from sunny Miami, Florida in the USA. I have been a Scout for over 20 years, as a child, adult, and staff member in the US and as a volunteer and now staff at Our Chalet. While here as a volunteer I fell in love with the Chalet, Adelboden, and all of the wonderful people who live at and visit the Chalet, and am thrilled to have the opportunity to return! I love spending time outdoors, although that means two very different things in Miami and Adelboden. I grew up near the ocean and spent a lot of time snorkeling, SCUBA diving and kayaking. Not a lot of time in the snow, but I’m excited to remedy that here in the Alps!
Stelios Epaminondas (Cyprus) : Grounds & Maintenance Assistant
Hello all! My name is Stylianos a.k.a Stelios, I will be doing my best to keep Our Chalet in good working order.
I am from the beautiful island of Cyprus on the eastern Mediterranean Sea. I am a DIY enthusiast with a love of the great outdoors. I was born in Kigezi, Uganda a place that was popularly known as the Switzerland of Africa, a region filled with lakes, mountains and forests.
Over the years I have worked as a Building Maintenance Operative for several companies in the UK. Before joining Our Chalet I worked on various campsites around Europe renovating and repairing Static Mobile Homes.
It is great to be here and I am looking forward to learning more about Our Chalet culture and tradition. It awesome to be a part of the team, I am certain my life will change for the better here and I hope I can make a positive change in others too, no matter how small. EFXARISTO and ASANTE, (thank you in Greek and Swahili)
Sonia Epaminondas (Burundi) : Kitchen Manager
Hi my name is Sonia, I am from Burundi I hope to keep everyone at Our Chalet well fed! I was born and raised in Bujumbura the capital city of Burundi, a small country neighbouring Rwanda. We have some beautiful sandy beaches on the shores of the worlds second deepest and second largest in volume freshwater lake (Lake Tanganyika).
I am loving it at Our Chalet I enjoy meeting new people and exploring new places. It is a privilege to be a part of something as great as WAGGGS and I look forward to learning new skills, cultures and languages.
Nicole Grossen-Wilhelm (Switzerland) : Bookkeeper
Nicole is one of several Swiss members of our long term staff team. She studied accounting which eventually brought her to Our Chalet as a bookkeeper. Nicole as a true Swiss at heart is a life time devotee to white sports - perhaps being a Ski Instructor at Adelboden Ski & Snowboard school for several years has something to do with it. She has two young children and a very patient husband. Nicole works with us one day a week but we are of course always badgering her to come more often, even if only to give us beginner ski tips and have fun with us. She is also one of those efficient, hard working young women who simply knows how to just "fix things" when it comes to numbers, or taking calls in Schwytzerdütsch, an exotic language which none of us can really understand. She is fun too and joins us keenly in laughing at our office fun.
Skippy Storrow (Switzerland) : Mouse Catcher
Skippy is from Adelboden in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Her Scouting experience is vast as she has spent much of her time at Our Chalet and is currently our longest serving member of staff!
She loves to explore the grass, eat bugs and mice and protects the grounds and guests from any possible predators such as marmots and slugs. In her free time she likes to sleep in the sunshine or in a cardboard box on someone's desk.
Georgina Smith (UK) : Guest Services Intern
Hi, I'm Georgiie, I'm 21 (turning 22 whilst at Our Chalet) and I'm from Coventry in the UK. I've been in Guiding since I was a rainbow, aged 5 and am now a Brownie and Guide leader. I have had some amazing experiences including international camps in the local area and leading a county trip to Croatia in 2013. I have also represented my county when visiting Sangam in 2012 and I visited Pax Lodge in 2013.
This is my first time to Our Chalet, I'm looking forward to learning how to ski, enjoying the snow and I also want to travel around Switzerland whilst I am here. Back home I love spending time with my friends and family, watching lots of movies, doing henna and travelling. When I return to the UK I will be going back to university to train to become a secondary school teacher, specialising in geography.
Virginia Miller (USA) : Programme Intern
Hello! My name is Virginia and I am from California, USA. I have been a Girl Scout for nearly 25 years and am a Gold Award recipient and a Lifetime Member of the Girl Scouts. I have always loved being outdoors-whether it was camping and hiking with my family, or attending and working at summer camp in the mountains of California.
For the last 4 years I have worked in Yellowstone National Park as a guide, helping people experience nature, wildlife (like bears and buffalo and wolves!), and geysers. I am excited to be at my first World Centre, and look forward to being able to ski, hike, and connect with girls and women from all over the world!
Joanne Brown (UK) : Marketing & Communications Intern
Hello! I am Joanne; I'm 21, from Aberdeen, Scotland and hold Switzerland very close to my heart having visited Adelboden frequently throughout my childhood and early teenage years, first visiting in 1996.
In the UK I am an Administration Coordinator and also a Brownie Leader in the Dee Valley. I spend as much time as I can in the outdoors and enjoying the company of my Guiding and Scouting friends having been involved in Guiding my entire life and following in my mother and grandmothers footsteps by becoming a leader.
I can't wait to spend the spring season at Our Chalet and enjoy the new experiences and challenges that I will face.

I am now a Ranger, a Leader with Brownies and Guides, a Peer Educator and am part of Team Digital, looking at revamping our national website. In 2016, we are celebrating 100 years of The Senior Section (aged 14-25) in the UK and I helped write our challenge badge for all sections – Mission Spectacular!
I first visited Our Chalet in September on the Walking Week and just had to come back to spend more time here! I love being outdoors, playing music on my keyboard and crazy dance moves. I’m really looking forward to spending time in the snow (not just shovelling it!) and ticking off part of my Queen’s Guide Award whilst making lots of new guiding and scouting friends.

I love to travel, bake, ski, dance ballet (although I’m only a beginner), try new things, meet new people and challenge myself to do things outside of my comfort zone! I am excited to learn more about Swiss life and seeing a Swiss spring and summer. I most look forward to all the new experiences I will have and all the new people from different cultures that I will meet. Bring on the adventure!!!
