Development of the Movement
The Association MPANAZAVA ETO MADAGASIKARA (Girl Scouts of Madagascar) was founded in 1941 by the LMS missionaries and is based in protestant and Anglican churches. The ranger section, Afo (aged 16 to 25) was created in 1946 and the brownie section, Voronkely, in 1964. With its 22,000 members (census 2014), who are scattered across the 22 regions of the island, is the largest association of girls and young women in Madagascar.
