First step towards our forthcoming regional conference!
Raeda Badr, Arab regional committee member and Micheline Antonian Arab Region Director carried out a field visit to Qatar from 8 to 12 September 2015.
Aims of visit
The aims of the visit were to start the logistic of organizing our next regional conference in 2016, assess fundraising opportunities, have a better understanding of girl guiding situation in Qatar and agree on needed support from WAGGGS and the Arab Region to ensure membership growth.
Summary of visit:
Several meetings were carried out with Mr. Abdullah Mahmoud, the General and International Commissioner of the Qatar Scouts and Girl Guides Association, and his assistance, Aisha AlKaaby.
The team visited three proposed venues and discussed at length the requirements of hosting the regional conference
The meeting with some 20 skilled young women was very inspiring as most of them either attended world/regional events and want to be more involved in delivering WAGGGS initiatives in local schools.
The half day meeting with the 12 staff members was a good opportunity to have a better understanding of adult training opportunities and ways these are carried out.
The outcome of discussion was a consensus of all present to request the Arab Region to carry out a tailor made workshop, early 2016, that addresses specific areas of work to ensure the further development of Guiding. This event will also be open to competent young women
Meeting with H.H. Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage
A very productive meeting took place with His Highness where we first gave an overview of WAGGGS and Arab Region ways of work, highlighting the excellent work Qatari Guides have achieved through the Free Being Me programme and the different GAT initiatives
HH was keen to learn about the development of Guiding in the Arab Region and its ambitious Operational plan for the next triennium and asked to receive more information on its aim and desired outcome.
He expressed his readiness to help in ensuring the success of the Regional Conference as well as identifying a high profile and prominent lady as patron for the Conference.
Meeting with Dr. Haya All-Meadhadi,
It was a pleasure to meet with Dr. Haya All-Meadhadi, founder member of Al-Fursan Center for Training and Consultation who is a very well established business woman in Qatar as well as the Gulf countries. Dr Haya is a strong advocate for women rights through this Center.
Dr. Haya works closely with Eisha and the National Association in delivering the Free Being Me programme. Hence the fantastic results Guides reached so far.
Dr. Haya will be a key partner in organizing the Regional Conference and specially launching of the Friends of Arab Region.
