Dear Member Organizations,
The last year has been an incredibly busy time in the lives of the volunteers on the World Board! It has been wonderful to celebrate several promotions, new jobs and even a move of country amongst the board members!
Even within these times of great personal change, the commitment and dedication of the team to WAGGGS never falters and I am extremely grateful for the experience, skill and expertise we continue to benefit from.
I write now to confirm the news of one very specific new job; it is with huge congratulations that I confirm Jill Zelmanovits has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Girl Guides of Canada. I know you will all join me in wishing Jill every success as she transitions into this role and for the opportunities that lie ahead of her.
It is in this context and with great sadness that I have accepted Jill’s resignation from the World Board effective August, 2016.
Over her five years on the World Board Jill’s contribution has been huge; she brings energy, direction, courage, focus and passion to all we do and there is no doubt we will miss her presence significantly. Over the last two years in particular Jill has driven our work on membership growth to new levels; bringing innovation, challenge and momentum into our work so we can achieve our goals for more girls to benefit from our great movement. Jill has been a passionate voice in our advocacy work and an unrelenting advocate for young women.
In the context of her resignation, Jill said:
“I am so grateful for the incredible opportunity to have worked with so many amazing women – my colleagues on the World Board, the leaders in MOs, the staff at the Bureau and girls and young women that I have met around the world. WAGGGS is lucky to have your incredible dedication of time, energy, and passion and I am lucky to have shared ideas, strategy, e-mails (many!), conference calls and smiles with you. I take this role at Girl Guides of Canada full of confidence in a single fact: that Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting is what girls need to be the best that they can be and that together we can deliver that opportunity. I am so pleased to remain in the WAGGGS family and know that our paths will cross again soon.”
I am delighted to be able to confirm that Heidi Jokinen who is currently an approved person (previously known as a substitute member) for the World Board has agreed to join us on the World Board until the World Conference in 2017. Since 2014 Heidi has been a member of the WAGGGS Membership Growth working group leading our global work on volunteerism and playing a significant role in the delivery of the Membership Growth roundtable held in London last year. She brings a wealth of experience from a range of leadership roles in Finland and Europe and we very much look forward to welcoming her into the team.
On accepting her position on the World Board Heidi said;
"I'm honoured by this sudden responsibility and absolutely excited. Having been involved in the membership growth and volunteerism work these past months I feel confident and highly inspired in taking on this new role to contribute through WAGGGS to all the girls and young women globally"
Suomen Partiolaiset – Finlands Scouter ry said:
"We are truly excited about this opportunity and wish to offer our full support to Heidi and her contribution to the important second half of the triennium. We hope you all continue to support the work of the magnificent WAGGGS world board in its new composition."
My thanks to both Jill and Heidi as they embark on their new roles and I look forward to working with them both in the respective capacities as we continue in our commitment to support all girls fulfil their potential.
