Participants from all across the AP Region are thrilled to be all together at the 2016 conference, hosted by Nepal Scouts in beautiful Kathmandu.
A warm welcome greeted all participants at the conference. 131 participants representing 23 Member Organizations, as well as Regional and Global volunteers and staff are gathered at the Yak and Yeti hotel in Kathmandu for a week of celebration, discussion, inspiration and friendship. Our theme is Connect, Grow, Impact.
Our business opened with a session where we heard from the inspiring and dedicated women who are putting themselves forward to become members of the next Regional Committee.
The Nepal Scouts then treated all participants to a wonderful opening ceremony, including a traditional lamp lighting. All were honoured to have the first female President of Nepal, the Rt Honourable Mrs Bidhya Devi Bhandari speak to the gathering. She had inspiring words for us about the power of scouting to make a difference in the world, with the example of the work the Nepal Scouts did in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in 2015.
The afternoon was a chance to celebrate the achievements and activities of WAGGGS and the AP Region over the last 3 years. Did you know, since 2010 the AP region has grown by 16%? We now have 3.5 million AP Region members. And growing!! Delegates also had the opportunity to hear from other Member Organizations about projects and initiatives they have been running to Connect, Grow and Impact, with a chance to ask questions and learn from one another.
After a dinner with fantastic traditional Nepal entertainment, the delegates had the opportunity to split into focus groups, a precious chance for young women, International Commissioners and Chief Commissioners to share experiences and ideas with each other and the Region teams. Tomorrow we look forward to a day discussing the future of WAGGGS and the Region!
