Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA) is one of the largest organizations in Kenya for girls and young women with almost 400,000 members registered. The Association has been active in Kenya since 1920 and is a multi-racial, non-religious, non-political and non-profit-making organization. The Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA) is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl scouts (WAGGGS). KGGA delivers high quality non-formal educational programmes that provide the girls and young women with dynamic, flexible and value-based training in life skills, playing a unique role in creating a world where girls and young women are valued and empowered to take action to change the world. Our well-established values based approach to non-formal learning combines self-development, challenge and adventure.

The Project – WAGGGS Stop the Violence Campaign in Kenya

Stop the Violence Campaign in Kenya has the goal of reducing violence against women and girls (VAWG), where we will directly benefit 1,020 girls and young women by:

  • Raising awareness of the causes and consequences of VAWG. We will train a group of young leaders, who will then cascade the training to girls and young women in their communities, using the Voices Against Violence curriculum (VAV).
  • Supporting girls and young women to run locally-relevant projects to mobilise their community to take action against VAWG. Girls will achieve this through awareness-raising in their communities, as well as advocating to decision-makers for stronger commitments on ending VAWG.

Job Purpose:

This role will support on the development and delivery of the Stop the Violence Campaign in Kenya, ensuring the programme is adapted to national context and the needs of the member organisation: the Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA).

The role involves working closely with KGGA national leaders and staff local leaders, Girl Guides and WAGGGS programme staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Scope, then develop a project plan and support the implementation of the WAGGGS Stop the Violence Campaign in Kenya within agreed outcomes including, timescales, budget and quality parameters in collaboration with the KGGA.
  2. Assess and actively manage programme risks in country, issues and dependencies using appropriate project management techniques. Use critical and creative thinking to troubleshoot and design appropriate solutions.
  3. Undertake the day-to-day budget management, including regular narrative and financial reporting of the project ensuring and address any issues in conjunction with the Global Programmes Manager in a timely manner.
  4. Engage directly with, and provide support to the KGGA volunteers and staff to ensure the programme is delivered with positive agreed experiences for individuals involved, KGGA and WAGGGS.
  5. Facilitate the recruitment and ongoing management of country-based volunteer co-creation groups, ensuring that they are inducted, trained and supervised. These groups will inform, support and feed into the project, ensuring effective girl participation takes place within an efficient, effective and quality framework.
  6. As the WAGGGS representative, contribute to strengthening relationships between KGGA and key stakeholders (NGOS, Government, decision makers) in Kenya to support project outcomes.
  7. Conduct research and compile data to help inform the content and methodology of the project feeding into regular reports to WAGGGS.
  8. Oversee, the training of trainers and training of leaders to ensure the effective roll out of the VaV curriculum in Kenya.
  9. Work with KGGA to carry out a selection process, organise and facilitate training and coaching sessions for Girl Guides to attend global events.
  10. Support the KGGA to participate and complete the VaV curriculum.
  11. Support the KGGA members participating in the project to deliver their initiatives following the completion of the VaV Curriculum.
  12. Collect stories and provide support for the communication of the project, in collaboration with WAGGGS staff Communications teams.
  13. Be responsible for and able to evidence own personal development by undertaking relevant training, attending meetings, conferences and events ensuring that you are updated in all matters relevant to the role within the Personal Development Plan agreed with the line manager.
