About GYM:

The GYM project was set up in December 2020 and is led in collaboration by the Big 6 Youth Organizations and backed by the WHO and United Nations Foundation. It’s an initiative of young people and voluntary organisations taking action with the aim to address the negative impact of the pandemic on their lives, their communities and their countries to improve their lives now and in a post-COVID-19 world.

The Big 6 comprises the six largest youth movements in the world: World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), World Young Men’s Christian Association (WYMCA), World Young Women’s Christian Association (WYWCA), The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (The Award) and WAGGGS. Together, the Big 6 actively involve and engage more than 250 million young people, contributing to the empowerment of more than one billion young people during the last century.

Job Purpose:

Working closely with the Project Coordinator, this role will manage and oversee WAGGGS’ implementation of the GYM project. The GYM Project Manager will lead on the project’s partnership, communication and advocacy components, actively participating in meetings with the GYM PCT and DLs in representation of WAGGGS. The GYM Project Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the GYM finances and budget.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Support to Anna and Helga as Project Board members
  • Work with the Project Coordinator and the Project Board members to deliver and monitor the project
  • Actively engage in GYM project coordination meetings – DL meetings and Advocacy, Communication and Partnership meetings as appropriate
  • Provide feedback to the Head of Global Programmes on strategic opportunities that arise that could be leveraged
  • Provide line management to project coordinator

Oversight of successful Movement engagement

  • Contact with MOs regarding the project
  • Contact with Regional Committees regarding the project
  • Coordinate translation of project text and MO reports as necessary

Oversight of successful Internal/External Communications

  • Work with Communications colleagues to promote the project and WAGGGS involvement internally and externally
  • Prepare updates on project progress

Oversight of successful Finances

  • Manage the GYM project budget
  • Monitor actual project expenditure
  • Prepare financial reports for WAGGGS and for GYM PCT

Monitoring & Reporting.

  • Oversee the reporting process from MOs (with input from existing M&E staff and using the WAGGGS results-based management approach)
  • Oversee the preparation of the narrative monitoring reports for WAGGGS and for GYM PCT

Oversight of successful Advocacy Implementation

  • Support young women from WAGGGS involved in GYM advocacy initiatives (with input from WAGGGS staff working on advocacy)
  • Develop the advocacy objectives and outcomes of the Asia-Pacific Regional Youth Summit to take place at Sangam from 7 – 11 November, 2022.


  • In collaboration with the Fund Development team, provide updates to WAGGGS on organisational donors and partners engaged by GYM project
