Mission and Vision
Vision 2020 and the 2012-2014 Strategic Plan
In 2009 we began an in-depth consultation process with girls and young women, our Member Organizations, partners and volunteers to understand what we wanted Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting to look like in 2020. The result was a recommitment to our existing Mission and an exciting proposal for a new Vision to carry the Movement into its second century.
Vision 2020 represents Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting’s shift to be a Movement which will impact the lives of all girls and young women. It reflects member organizations’ transformation into life-changing and community-shaping organizations. It captures girls’ and young women’s desires to develop themselves and contribute to improving the lives of others.
To enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.
All girls and young women are valued and take action to change the world.
Together the Vision and the Mission uphold and strengthen the inherent principles of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. Olave Baden-Powell urged the Movement to ‘create a better world and brighter future for the youth of tomorrow’; an aspiration as relevant today as it was one hundred years ago.
Focusing on our Vision will place girls and young women at the centre of all we do as Member Organizations and at regional and global level. Such a vision ensures every decision we make and every action we take contributes towards building a better future for girls and young women all over the world. Our Vision is about the kind of world we want to see; a world that supports the best possible future for all girls. It is a Vision that Girl Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world can commit to achieving as we move towards 2020 and beyond.
Working through our Vision and Mission, we will continue to support girls and young women, increase their opportunities for self-development, enable them to take an active role in their community and empower them to speak out and take action against injustice and inequality to make the world a better place.
