The UPS/WAGGGS partnership has been going for over 11 years beginning all the way back in 2003. Each phase has supported Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world, from building membership and capacity in our Member Organizations to enabling girls and young women to attend international events such as the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP), to make their voices heard.
In addition to financial support, the partnership has aimed at encouraging UPS employee engagement with each programme, utilising UPS's global reach and wide staff base to encourage cooperation and direct involvement in the project. The Mentorship programme connects UPS staff with Scout and Guide Leaders and Trainers who benefit and learn from the expertise and knowledge which UPS staff are able to share. Local offices are regularly involved in country-specific projects, which allows for greater engagement and a closer understanding of the issues they aim to tackle, while strengthening ties within the local community.
For 2015/16, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and UPS have agreed to a new phase of the partnership, training leaders in Mexico, Panama, Nigeria, South Africa and the UAE to build the capacity of our members and enable girls and young women to become the change-makers in their communities and responsible citizens of the world.
