Inequality is holding girls back - especially those living in rural, isolated areas. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is the charity of choice for International Women’s Day on 8 March.
The 2018 theme was #PressForProgress, which aims to advance gender equality. As we press ahead we must ensure all benefit from progress and no girl, no matter where she lives, is left behind. WAGGGS is celebrating those involved with Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in rural communities by sharing their stories and what they do to press for progress.
International Women’s Day takes place every year on 8 March. It is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their communities.
As the leading girls’ rights organisation, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from around the world have told us how they’re not prepared to wait so long for gender equality. The current generation of girls needs to see the transformative change during their lifetime and, as an organisation, we’re committed to making that happen.
