About International Day of the Girl Child

International Day of the Girl Child is marked every year on 11 October. The day focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face, promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.

As the world’s largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women, we celebrate International Day of the Girl Child to amplify the message that girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life during their formative years and as they mature into women.

Every year, to mark International Day of the Girl Child, we recognise the importance of girls' voices through projects and activities that help consult and listen to the voices of girls and young women in our global Movement.

Partnering with us for International Day of the Girl Child will give the 8.9 million girls and young women in our Movement a better chance of realising the safe, healthy and happy future they all deserve.

What your support can help us achieve

Girls are already breaking boundaries and barriers posed by stereotypes and exclusion, by participating in our non-formal education programmes and girl-led advocacy activities on issues such as violence against girls, stigmas around periods and action on climate change.

Your corporate support will help by:

  • Enabling programmes and advocacy activity to be delivered to our Movement. That's ten million girls and young women from a huge range of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Creating girl-only safe spaces where girls and young women can discuss sensitive topics with their peers, supported by trusted volunteers. This helps us to understand what girls are passionate about and support them to drive the change they want to see.
  • Helping us to give girls the confidence, resilience and sense of empowerment they need to take the lead in their lives.

"I believe that girls have a power of voice that can drive change. We engage in advocacy that focuses on the needs of girls."

How you can support

Supporting us for International Day of the Girl Child is about a lot more than donations alone. Here are three ways to support us:

CORPORATE ADVOCACY

Help us reach new audiences and amplify the message that girls have a right to a safe, educated and healthy life, and how Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting can help deliver this. We’ll provide everything you need to start advocating for girls and young women in your channels!

STAFF FUNDRAISING

Get your organisation engaged with fun activities that shine a light on how girls are breaking boundaries and barriers posed by stereotypes and exclusion - and raise vital funds to support our work. We’ll provide ideas and resources to make staff fundraising a breeze!

CORPORATE DONATION

Enable programmes and advocacy activity to be delivered to our Movement of ten million girls and young women from a huge range of backgrounds, societies and cultures. Your donation will help girls thrive!

International Day of the Girl Child is also the ideal time to launch a long-term strategic partnership that supports one of our Global Programmes on the issues that matter most to girls. Get in touch if you are interested in working with us in this way.
