19 June 2012, Rio de Janeiro – The first time a Girl Guide is awarded a Girl Guide badge is a time of joy and sense of achievement. It is therefore with great pride that the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) will award the Brazilian Girl Guide badge ‘Citizenship Specialist’ to the Education, Health and Gender group representatives from Switzerland, the European Union, United States of America, Australia, Norway and the G77 for their support in reintroducing ‘non-formal education’ into the draft outcome document.

8 March 2012, London – The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) was today announced as one of the 50 most inspiring ideas and solutions delivering for girls and women across the globe for its campaign to “Stop the violence – speak out for girls’ rights,” as part of Women Deliver’s International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrations. In addition, the World Association this year confirms a partnership with internationalwomensday.com as their charity of choice, and Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world bring the theme “Connecting girls, inspiring futures” to life, with actions including Tweeting the #womensday hashtag, participating in a special webcast and adding their voices to the Stop the Violence campaign.

WAGGGS "Stop the Violence - Speak out for girl's rights" campaign has been chosen as one of the “Women Deliver 50: the most inspiring ideas and solutions delivering for women.” “The selection of the World Association’s campaign to stop violence against girls and young women in the Top 50 acknowledges the crucial role girls and young women play as leaders of change on such challenging issues as gender based violence and ultimately in determining just and equal societies. Only through empowering girls themselves can we overcome what sometimes seem like such intractable issues,” said Mary Mc Phail, Chief Executive of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. 2 Décembre 2011 WAGGGS and WOSM hold a joint press conference at COP 17
28 representatives from the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) are at the United Nations climate change conference, COP 17, representing their 40million strong membership with the clear message that countries must reach a fair, ambitious and binding agreement in Durban. Whilst many nations are paying scant attention to their populations’ demands on climate change, WAGGGS and WOSM are actively consulting their members. To help formulate its COP 17 strategy, WAGGGS conducted a global environment survey in September 2011 in over 100 countries.With a strong mandate from its membership, WAGGGS and WOSM have come to COP 17 with five key demands.
