On this International Day of Peace, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts would like a to send a message to our 10 million girls all around the world.
This is the second International Peace Day that the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts has partnered with Peace One Day to promote a day of peace, non violence and ceasefire all around the world. On this day we would like to send a special message to our girls who may be in conflict areas, or are experiencing any violence in any form. The Girl Guide and Girl Scout movement is a movement of sisterhood and solidarity, and if any of our girls are in conflict, then we all are.
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts promotes a society free of violence and conflict. Through our efforts we continue to educate girls and young women around the world about violence and their rights, lobbying decision makers to hear the voices of young people and realise that we want peace. We have done this through our Stop the Violence campaign, our support of the Millenium Development Goals, celebrating Peace Day and recognizing and participating in 16 Days of non-violence. We are currently writing a position statement on violence and have Peace badges and Peace curriculums available to our girls and young women.
On behalf of 10 million girls and young women world wide, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts would like to tell anyone in conflict areas that you are not alone. In fact, you have 10 million people standing behind you.
Please continue to spread the message about Peace Day, watch the 24 hour global broadcast happening 21 September 2013 here, hold a peace day event, join in on the chats on social media, and continue to take the message that Peace Day spreads and carry that with you even after Peace Day.
We not only ask you 'who will you make peace with?', but to please think of those who are not experiencing peace in their lives.
Thank you for celebrating with us this Peace Day.
