Every year on 8 March the world commemorates International Women’s Day. It’s a time to reflect the fact that still one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime — with the abuser usually someone known to her.
Because of this situation, WAGGGS is a launch partner of the UNIFEM campaign ‘say NO to violence against women’. Nicole Kidman, UNIFEM goodwill ambassador, has sent a special message to all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide about this campaign.
Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting also provides opportunities where girls and young women can grow strong and independent. You can read the amazing stories on how Guiding has had an impact on the lives of five Girl Guides from around the world and celebrities who were former Girl Guides or Girl Scouts.
