With only 32 days until the World Conference on Youth takes place in Sri Lanka, from 6th - 10th May, young people from all around the world are preparing to come together and discuss the priorities for youth in the post-2015 development agenda.

World Conference on Youth 2010The conference is the biggest global youth event in the next two years and comes at a crucial time. Momentum is building to the official post-2015 development agenda negotiations, which kick off officially in September 2014, and the Colombo Action Plan on Youth (the outcome document from the conference) will be fed directly into these negotiations. Unlike the Millennium Development Goals, which were decided behind closed doors, this is a real opportunity for young people to ensure their needs are met in the new framework.

WAGGGS, along with representatives from eight other youth organisations, is a member of the International Youth Task Force coordinating the event and will have direct access to the editing of the outcome document. The initial draft of this document, which youth will be feeding into, can be found here.

WAGGGS have applied to run a side event on 'The World We Want for Girls' which will highlight the building blocks, identified in our consultations with thousands of girls and young women around the world, that are required to achieve a world that meets the needs of girls and young women and allows them to be powerful agents of change.

If you are a Girl Guide or Girl Scout who has applied to attend the conference, you will find out whether or not your application was successful after 8th April. You can find more information here, including FAQs and a forum to discuss priorities with other young people from around the world.
