“I want to lead, at my best, to serve as an inspiration to other young people,” Keshia Lanthe B. Gutierrez, Star Girl Scout from Olongapo Council, Philippines wrote in her letter to President Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III, dated 22 July, 2013.
The letter was her entry to the contest, Little President’s Letter to Mr. President, organized by Tang Food Products, in partnership with The Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper. As winning entry, her letter was published in The Philippine Daily Inquirer on the day of the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on 22 July, 2013.
Lanthe, a Grade III student of Special Education Center for Gifted, said in her letter:
|I believe that as an active student and as a Star Girl Scout, I can be a good example to young people. If I begin to do things right, my country will be proud of me.|
The contest gave Lanthe the chance to share her ideas and her current activities that ought to make a difference in the life of Filipinos.
Lanthe said that she learned to dream, to be diligent and honest, and to have self-discipline because of Girl Scouting. These are the qualities that made her a good contestant while representing thePhilippinesin a recent Mathematics competition in Hong Kong.
She thanked the President who served as an inspiration to her to walk on the “Road of Righteousness” (Daang Matuwid). She wishes to see the President’s smile in person, which she only gets to see on the television or in the newspaper. The President’s smile is like telling her that “she can do it.”
As her prize, Lanthe received a Tang gift pack. In addition, the company pledged to donate PHP30,000.00 to a cause of her choice.
