In our small pocket of the globe, we in Trinidad and Tobago battle violence against girls and women in the home, in the streets and even in the workplace, but we can only imagine the depths of struggle and anguish inflicted on girls and women in states in famine, war, or other kinds of conflicts.
Though the nature of the injustice or the manifestation of the conflict is different, the pain that we as girls and women feel is universal.
But we mustn't allow ourselves to become gobbled up by what seems to be a never-ending morass. Perhaps we must become delusional in our hope and radical in our faith, but what we must never do is give in to fear or a feeling of hopelessness.
The girls, guiders and executive of the Girl Guides of Trinidad and Tobago send our deepest love to girls and women all over the world who are experiencing hurt and conflict.
Though easy to say, we must continue to believe that no matter how small our light, we can still shine brightly; no matter what pot we were planted in, we must dare to blossom, and no matter what generation to which we were born we must defy the odds, to work together towards peace, in ever corner of the globe that we reside.
On Behalf of the Executive and Members of the Girl Guides Association of Trinidad and Tobago
