2011 is our second centenary year, and we are once again celebrating 100 years of changing lives on 10 April. Join 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world in commemorating this very special and historical occasion.

celebrate centenary YWWFIn 2010, our first centenary year, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts globally were united in celebrating with parties and activities on the theme of 'Plant'. You can read all about the celebrations in our special centenary section.

This year, the theme is 'Grow', and we're asking Member Organizations to grow their celebrations through community action.

There are lots of ways you can celebrate on 10 April:

  • Download the 2011 Centenary Activity Pack for lots of ideas on Grow-themed activities
  • Send an online centenary card (available soon on the WAGGGS website)
  • Apply for a mini-grant to support an environmental community project
  • Film or take photos of your centenary celebrations and send them to centenary@wagggsworld.org

Special 10 April action: I pledge...

Make a pledge on how you will bring about positive change in your community - just like the young women did at the Young Women's World Forums, our key centenary events. At the events, delegates wrote their pledges on t-shirts. Why not write your pledge on a t-shirt and send us your photo? Or send us a video message outlining your pledge? Send photos or videos to: centenary@wagggsworld.org and we'll post them on the WAGGGS website.

Grow your celebrations in 2011

This year we’re asking Member Organizations to go beyond the celebrations and set up centenary projects that make a difference in local communities and show people what Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting is all about.

Centenary projects are based on community action. They will enable you to grow your influence, build your networks and reach out to your communities, bringing the benefits of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting to many more people.

Centenary projects should have one overarching aim: to ‘change lives’. Sounds like an ambitious aim, but any positive change in your local area – be it big or small – counts. By having an impact on people beyond your troop, you will be ‘growing’ your celebrations into something that contributes to the theme of ‘changing lives’.

You can find out more in the 2011 Centenary Activity Pack.

Don't forget to keep sending us your centenary stories, photos and videos to centenary@wagggsworld.org
