Roundtable meeting in Rome

WAGGGS’ representatives at the UN teamed up with
members of the European external representatives pool for the first time this June in Rome to look at how WAGGGS can strengthen its advocacy work through both groups.

Pat Scharlin, UN representative in New York, gave a special briefing on the 14th Session of the CSD for members of the United Nations Association USA Council of Organizations was organized.

50th Commision on the Status of Women
 
The UN team, New York represented WAGGGS at the meeting.
The two main themes of the conference were: 
  1. Enhanced participation of women in development: an enabling environment for achieving gender equality and the advancement of women, taking into account, inter alia, the fields of education, health and work
  2. Equal participation of women and men in decision-making processes at all levels.

WHO Consultative Workshop

Judith Verkooijen, team coordinator of UN team, Geneva attended the WHO consultative workshop ’From Vision to Action: NGOs Promoting Health in a Globalized World’.  The workshop was part of an ongoing and strengthening collaboration between NGOs and WHO in the field of health promotion. 

The workshop was a follow-up to the 6th Global Conference on health promotion (Bangkok, 7-11 August 2005) and the Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalized World (BCHP). The BCHP “identifies actions, commitments and pledges required to address the determinants of health in a globalized world through health promotion”. 

The outcome of this workshop is an action framework on health promotion for NGOs. Judith made a presentation on WAGGGS using the toolkit and adolescent health survey which was well received and will be used in the final report. 

FAO Seminar

The UN team, Rome participated in a seminar on 18 February and spoke about ’Yesterday and today Scouting and Guiding’, organized by the Baden Powell Park Association in Rome. 
The team spoke on the role of Guiding and the role of WAGGGS representatives at FAO linked to the Millennium Development Goals.  The team also spoke about the FAO/WAGGGS’ Right to Food project, inviting all the participants (journalists, leaders and former Scouts and Guides) to the launch in June.

The UN team, Geneva made a statement about the Millenium Development Goals and WAGGGS for the World Health executive Board meeting in the third week of January.
