UN teams take action on World Health Day

The six volunteer teams representing WAGGGS at the UN are using World Health Day on 7 April as an opportunity to speak out and raise awareness about WAGGGS’ work on girls’ health.
The WAGGGS UN teams ensure that the voice of girls and young women counts at the United Nations. The teams, established several decades ago, are based in Geneva, Nairobi, New York, Paris, Rome and Vienna.
WAGGGS’ advocacy focus on adolescent health stems from a survey conducted among its members. WAGGGS asked about issues that concern them and affect their lives and on which topics they want WAGGGS to speak out and take action at global level. Health issues such as HIV and AIDS, malnutrition and drug abuse were primary concerns among the members surveyed. In response WAGGGS’ seven key messages on adolescent health were launched as part of the new advocacy campaign in 2005.
