Projects seeking funding

The following projects are in the Mutual Aid scheme and require funding. Some projects have received partial funding from Member Organizations.

Nicaragua – Increase quality and membership through programme and promotion

 
Project 231 – National Training Network
Asociación Nacional de Muchachas Guías de Nicaraguaplans to recruit and maintain a network of trainers. After recruitment, the trainers will be given monthly distance learning training supported by face-to-face training every three months. After six months, and attaining the first level of training, the trainers will implement the knowledge they have gained, running trainings on a monthly basis for the next six months for guiders in their respective regions at basic and advanced level. The Association is seeking £4,750 to implement the project. It hopes to select ten future trainers and 20 guiders who will be integrated into the training process. The project will implement processes for distance learning that are dynamic, attractive and cost-effective.

Belize – Increase quality and membership through programme and promotion

 
Project 230 – Membership drive and printing equipment

The Girl Guides Association of Belize
is holding a membership drive to attract more Guide Leaders into the Association. It hopes to increase membership by 100% in the next year and provide training for new leaders. Part of the project will be to purchase a colour laser printer to produce more attractive promotion, programme, and training materials. Such materials will more actively engage the readers, and make for more successful promotion, programme, and training activities. The Association is seeking £3,000 to purchase a colour laser printer and supplies, and travel expenses for on-site training for new leaders.

Ecuador – Development of girls and young women through qualified staff

 
Project 229 – Hiring of the National Commissioner
 
The Asociación Nacional de Guías Scouts del Ecuador is seeking to hire the full-time services of a salaried person in the role of National Commissioner for a two-year period. The purpose is to consolidate and increase activities in the Association throughout the country and to achieve a significant increase in active membership. The girls and young women will benefit from a revitalized organization through the activities of the National Commissioner: There will be 80 qualified guiders and 30 new groups with a total of 450 new members throughout the country. The organization has secured partial sponsorship for the role but requires a further £5,000 in order to complete the funding.

Honduras – Help young women to be trained as advocates

 
Project 228 – Young women advocates for change
 
The Asociación Nacional de Muchachas Guías de Honduras hopes to select thirty young women (aged 15-30 years) with strong leadership skills. Training will be given on advocacy issues using various methods. During the process they will lead debates, round tables, discussions and campaigns as part of the training and learning process. They will become involved in existing civil networks and will be expected to take a lead on policy discussions and contribute to defending the human rights of girls and young women in Honduras. The organization requires £3,500 to fund this project. 

Honduras – Encouraging recycling and better conservation

 
Project 227 - Drops of life-giving water
 
The Asociación Nacional de Muchachas Guías de Honduras will be running a project to contribute towards water conservation through recycling and raising awareness about better conservation practices. Fifty Leaders will be recruited and trained to run conservation projects through five training workshops. Other activities include a competition to make items from recycled materials and an exhibition of promotional materials on the subject. This project builds on work inspired by the World Thinking Day theme of water and will produce strategic partnerships with other organizations in the conservation field.The organization requires £4,000 to complete the project.

Honduras – Help raise awareness and prevent the trafficking of girls

 
Project 226: Trafficking and abuse of girls
 
The Asociación Nacional de Muchachas Guías de Honduras has identified ten rural girl guiding groups with high rates of migration and risk of sexual exploitation and trafficking.  The organization hopes to contribute to the prevention of trafficking through providing information and implementing preventative measures.   
The planned activities include:
  • Strengthening leadership in rural girl guiding groups
  • Raising awareness in the community of the risks of trafficking
  • Setting up and strengthening existing local networks to ensure safety of girls
  • Provide training and opportunities for income generation and self-employment
The organization requires £5,000 to complete the project.

Maldives – Strengthening the association through leadership training

 
Project 225 – Training of leaders and trainers
 
The Maldives Girl Guide Association is seeking £5,000 to implement a programme of training so that trainers are available throughout the country. They plan to hold atoll level training for leaders and seek out good trainers who can be developed to work as trainers in the atoll. The aim is to have 2 trainers per atoll. They intend to assess leaders and trainers as they organize regional camps. They will also print a trainers manual and leaders manual to enable good guidelines.

 

Jordan: Help Girl Guides to be given handicraft skills
 
Project 221: Vocational skills
 
The Jordanian Association of Boy Scouts and Girl Guides is seeking £5,000 to fund a project which will equip Girl Guides with handicraft (embroidery and ceramics etc) skills. With the help of specialist trainers, a workshop will be set to give the Girl Guides skills which can be used in income generation. An estimated 100 girls will be trained in four months 
 

Portugal: Six Group Leaders needed to support two local communities

Project 216: Improving family conditions in Areosa. 
 
£5,000
is needed to help the Associacao Guis de Portugal reach their goal to improve the living conditions of two neighbourhoods. Both neighbours face problems of unemployment, alcoholism and domestic violence. 25 children are affected and are in great need of support. This project aims to support families by helping women to manage household chores, support with child care, providing children and women with different experiences and activities to develop self-confidence and self-esteem.

Togo: Providing a safe space for members to work and play


Project 199: Refurbishment of Association hall
The Association is hoping to refurbish their main hall. The objectives of the project are:

* To provide an efficient working space for the national and regional teams.
* To offer  leaders an appropriate space for training and presentations.
* To archive, file and store documents and other property belong to the Association.

Planned activities: Brickwork, whitewashing, joinery, electrical work, furnishing and equipping of the hall - incorporating an office, a secretary’s office and filing area and a kitchen area.

They hope to acheive the successful completion of the hall refurbishment and installation of furnishings. This project will be monitored by the National Team.

Thanks to a donation by Girl Guides of Canada, this project requires £3,600 to be completed.
