BBC Radio 4 appeal raises £10,000 for WAGGGS
2 May 2008
This special fundraising initiative was aired on Easter Sunday, 23 March, on BBC Radio 4 and on the following Thursday. The donations through the BBC Radio 4 website are now closed but you can donate money to WAGGGS through our website.
The appeal was presented by Baroness Betty Boothroyd, formerly the Speaker of the House of Commons, now a member of the House of Lords, UK Parliament. Baroness Boothroyd talked about how Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting has changed over the years since she was a Brownie and focused on the important work WAGGGS is now undertaking, including the campaign to increase awareness and prevention of HIV and AIDS.
About the BBC 4 Radio appeal
BBC broadcast appeals provide information to their audience about a wide range of charities which need their support, encourage members of the public to give to charitable causes and give charities the opportunity to raise money and raise public awareness about their work. In 2006-07, Radio 4 Appeals raised £ 1,361,196 for 51 charities working in the UK and overseas.
