Our Cabana is offering scholarships to international volunteers for upcoming terms!
13 May 2014
Our Cabaña is one of the four world centres owned by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. It is located in the heart of central Mexico in the city of Cuernavaca. Like the other Centres, we offer a unique experience, influenced not only by the culture of our country, but also by the international members of our staff.
Throughout the year, Our Cabaña offers numerous seminars and international events that vary in length and content and are open to all members of WAGGGS.
We also have International Volunteers who are WAGGGS members over the age of 18 who come to Our Cabaña for a period of 6 - 10 weeks, depending on the season. The positions encompass all the duties required to help run a successful programme and also maintain the Centre to a high standard. Volunteer roles give individuals the opportunity to assist in all aspects of our programme.
We are currently awarding scholarships to international volunteers for the following volunteer terms at Our Cabaña World Centres:
24th Sept – 30th Nov 2014
17th Dec 2014 – 28th Feb 2015
Who can apply?
Any member of WAGGGS that has been accepted to attend an event at Our Cabaña or applying to be a volunteer for one of the volunteer terms can apply for the available scholarship monies.
The money granted is given to the individual rather than their National Organization. If an individual applies to be a participant at an event and is successful in securing a scholarship, the programme fees will also be paid by WAGGGS to Our Cabaña. Travel and visa costs will be reimbursed to individuals upon arrival and by submitting receipts.
The amount of the scholarship will vary dependent of the event or the distance travelled, but will help to cover some of the volunteer or event participants Travel and visa costs and will be reimbursed to individuals upon arrival at Our Cabaña and submitting receipts.
What are volunteer sessions?
Volunteers assist the Program Team in all aspects of running the scheduled programs at Our Cabaña. They assist in the set up and participate in all Program activities including off site out trips, providing tours of local towns and cities to participant, assist in the craft house and help run sports activities and musical events. Running International festivals, campfires, service projects, ceremonies, helping to develop and deliver workshops based on the current WAGGGS themes and initiatives. Volunteers will help the local staff with the preparing the centre for guests, and assisting in the dining room with meal service and help in the Our Cabaña shop. And most of all the volunteers who come to Our Cabaña will share their Guiding & Scouting knowledge from their own country and contribute to the International atmosphere of the World Centre.
