WAGGGS delegate, Maggie Simmons, speaks at Hay Festival alongside Natalie Bennett, Leader of the UK’s Green Party
29 November 2013
Tonight, the Hay Festival Winter Wonderland kicks off in Wales and UK Girlguiding member, Maggie Simmons, will be speaking alongside Natalie Bennett, Leader of the UK’s Green Party, at an event hosted by our partner, Environmental Justice Foundation.
What does home mean to you? This is one of the questions being explored in the event, ‘Postcards from the Frontlines’, which will discuss the impact of climate change on human rights around the world and how, in turn, this impacts families and what you perceive as ‘home’.
What would you do if you lost your home? Maggie will be highlighting how girls and young women are disproportionately affected by climate change and showcasing the great work done to combat climate change by you, our members, all over the world.
Postcards from the Frontlines is an ongoing campaign by Environmental Justice Foundation and was promoted by the recent WAGGGS delegates at COP 19 through a mini side event. The delegates have been acting as ‘ambassadors’ for their countries and Member Organizations by collecting together photos of the impacts of climate change on their homes, or photos of what home means to them, and sending them as postcards to Ban Ki-Moon in New York. You can send a postcard here.
