Community Action Experience at the Fifth World Centre!

On the 21st of October the Community Action Experience held as part of the Fifth World Centre Pilot Project began! Taking place from the 21st of October to the 17th of November the Community Action Experience is being hosted by the Kenyan Girl Guide Association at Shanzu Transitional Centre for Disabled Young Women in Mombasa. The Workshop enables young women with disabilities to gain tailoring, production and life skills that empower them to become productive and confident members of the community and society.

Participating in the Community Action Experience will be 8 young women from the UK, USA, Lebanon, Nigeria, Liberia, Madagascar and Kenya. Over the month long programme the young women will be working with Shanzu as well as a number of other Community Partners on volunteer projects ranging from helping to improve the Shanzu brand for the products they produce, teaching financial and business skills and running workshops on self-confidence and life skills.

In preparation for the programme‘s start everyone at the centre is very busy! The washing machine has arrived and the first load has been washed. The maintenance team is working hard giving everything its final lick of paint.  The invitations for the welcome ceremony have been distributed and special bags have been created in the workshop as a welcome gift for the participants.
