The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts has won the MY World People's Choice Award!
20 September 2013
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are pleased to announce that we have won the popular votes and has been chosen to receive the MY World People's Choice Award.
The United Nations and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts partnered for the MY World Survey- a survey asking young people worldwide which issues they find are the most important to them and their family based on a list provided. The issues most chosen will shape and define the next set of global goals set by the UN once the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) expire in 2015.
On 10 September, 2013, MY World asked those who filled out the survey to vote for their favourite partner of MY World. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts was chosen for a list of the top 10 out of 60 nominations to be on the ballot form. Users were asked to vote for a week and the organization with the most popular votes would win.
The Award will be presented on the 25 September 2013 in New York. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are already currently in New York for the United Nations General Assembly with a delegation of 5 women who are discussing how to accelerate the MDGs and what should be on the Post-2015 agenda. They will be accepting the award on that day.
WAGGGS would like to formally thank everyone who voted, and encourage girls and young women worldwide to keep filling out the MY World Survey, ensuring that the voices of young people will be heard for the Post-2015 agenda. You can find the survey here.
A special thank you also to the WAGGGS Post-2015 Ambassadors, who worked hard to promote the MY World survey to their communities. You can learn about our ambassadors on the Post-2015 section of the website.
