16 Days: Safe Spaces - Day 1
25 November 2012
Today is the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women. From the 25 November to the 10 December, organizations and advocacy groups will be taking action to stop the violence.
This is not just a women's issue, this is a responsibility for all of us. This violence is an outrage and it must be stopped. Time has run out for complacency or excuses. Let us show the will, the determination and let us mobilise greater resources to end what is a scourge of humanity, violence against women.Michelle Bachelet, Executive Director of UN Women
To mark these 16 Days against violence, WAGGGS has called on Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to create safe spaces. We want to identify and transform unsafe spaces in communities, to spaces where no girls will experience violence or the fear of violence. WAGGGS has produced resources to help you to take this action.
During 16 Days, we need your support to help reach people across the world and to spread our messages to stop the violence. Rachel Singleton-Polster form Canada has developed a 16 Days Social Media toolkit to help all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to use social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, to act as a collective unit to create safe spaces.
WAGGGS challenges you to get #safespaces trending during 16 Days.
