Apply for a grant for your environmental project

22 March 2012

If you have an idea for an environmental project, you could receive up to 1500 USD to help you achieve it, under the FAO/WAGGGS grant scheme.

The deadline for applications is 1 July 2012.

MO project

Together with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, WAGGGS invites Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world to apply for a small grant for projects related to our Global Action Theme for 2012, girls worldwide say "We can save our planet".

Your project can be related to climate change adaptation (helping people cope with climate change) or mitigation (preventing further CO2 emissions). A food security or agriculture theme to the project is advantageous but not essential. Projects with inter-country collaboration will be looked on favourably.

Examples of eligible projects include planting trees or crops, setting up a recycling system in your meeting hall or school, or hosting a discussion in your community.

For further information and the application criteria please download the application form. If you have any queries please contact WAGGGS at comms@wagggs.orgThe deadline for applications is 1 July 2012.

To be eligible for a grant, your application must meet the following criteria.

  • Details of a dedicated contact person with access to email and a bank account are provided
  • The project is related to climate change, and ideally food security
  • The project is planned and conducted by young Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (between 7 and 25 years old) with the help of their leaders as required
  • The funding will be spent exclusively on the project as outlined
  • Project reports and other available documentation such as pictures are submitted immediately after completion of the project and will be used by WAGGGS and FAO for publication and promotion

I’d like to apply this!
Mangroves are in danger. They are dying by rubbish drifted by flow.
I heard about this from people who joins in the project planting mangroves.Mangroves make water clean and ,of course, emit a lot of oxygen.
So this project has two benefits!
My friend and I are planning to go there, Indonesia, to plant them.
I’m sure that seeing and doing by own eyes and body is the best way to know and tell.
So,please Support us for going there!
well,Is there any limitted dates?

Am happy we are done with 2012plan of planting tree in our community!this year we changed the style,we planted trees door by door to atract other Girls attention(at every house of the targeted village) inoder to encourage families to take part in planting tree so that they can aswell teach their children. It was fun seeing all female ages in action. After all the activities the PH kandama(chief) and community famers gave the girlguides alot of farm produce as a gift of thanks for choosing their village and this was great for it acted as reinforcement to the warmfull progress of the project.we have just applyed for the FAOandWAGGGS Grant and we hope to develop our project through awareness that can impact 100 000 local community people with help of the 500 girls that are currently involved, since 2010 we have been planting trees and taking care of our crop garden and we know we are growing but our aim now is to share and harvest ahuge number of girls and young women that can actively participate in environmental issues aswell as help their communities cope with climate change BECOUSE TOGATHER WE CAN SAVE OUR PLANET!

I am so excited! We are amongst the plans of planting a community garden that will serve over 200+ families. As well as plant 100 trees. Our county and our neighboring county is amongst the highest unemployment rate here in Michigan. We look forward to bridging the gap with our neighbors and making sure our families have food to help suppliment their incomes. Our troop looks forward to teaching kids in area schools the importance of trees and the need for our natural resources. Thank you so much for a grand opportunity to serve our communities!
