WAGGGS marks International Women's Day with new film

8 March 2012

WAGGGS is the official charity partner of the International Women's Day website. The day was marked with the premiere of a new short film, WAGGGS at CSW, and a live Q&A session with one of our youth delegates.

WAGGGS has formed a partnership with internationalwomensday.com as its charity of choice, and Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world are bringing the International Women's Day theme “Connecting girls, inspiring futures” to life with actions including tweeting the #womensday hashtag, watching the WAGGGS at CSW film and adding their voices to the Stop the Violence campaign.

Every year as part of its commitment to transform the lives of girls and young women, the World Association supports a delegation of young to attend the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). This year’s CSW delegates kept a video diary of their experiences at the CSW, and the resulting 15-minute film was broadcast online in a live webcast. The film is now available to view on YouTube

WAGGGS is also celebrating its inclusion in the Women Deliver 50 list of the world's most inspiring ideas and solutions delivering for girls and women across the globe, for its campaign to “Stop the Violence – Speak Out for Girls’ Rights”.

“Recognition for our campaign in Women Deliver’s Top 50, our partnership with internationalwomensday.com and the ongoing and every day actions of our 10 million members and over one million volunteers around the world to empower girls and young women emphasize the role Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting has to play in ensuring that all girls are valued and able to realize their full potential,” said Mary Mc Phail, Chief Executive of WAGGGS.

Awesome video! It sounds like you all learned a lot at CSW! It is inspiring to hear about your experiences at CSW and how you will help empower girls and women in your countries.
