World Food Day 2008

1 October 2008

World Food Day, celebrated on 16 October each year, is the day the United Nations dedicates to hightlight the fight against hunger. This year the activities will be dedicated to climate change and bioenergy as a challenge for food security. More than 150 countries will be involved. This date, 16 October, is the birthday of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), founded in 1945.

Our World, Our Climate, Our Food

The WAGGGS’ UN team, Rome took part in the World Food Day celebrations and events at the FAO Headquarters. It was also the occasion to present the new FAO-WAGGGS project ‘Our World, Our Climate, Our Food’. This worldwide project aims to raise awareness of such issues as climate change, environment and food security, with the purpose of encouraging children and young people to take part in activities to reduce our impact on the environment and to take action against hunger in the world. The project is developing a series of educational materials for young people and leaders.
