Girl Guides get more

Florence, Nigeria Girl Guides

I used to be a very shy person who could not speak in public but today with the help of Guiding I can now stand before my president and make an excellent speech.

Guiding is full of adventures; it has taken me to countries and towns where I never dreamed to go. I have lots of friends from all over the world. Academically I am fit, for I am always prepared.

Conny, Pfadfinderinnenschaft St. Georg, Germany

I have been in Guiding since I was 6 years old, but at the beginning I didn’t realise how “big” Guiding is. When I grew up, I went on international camps and got an impression about the internationality of Guiding.

In 2000 we had a national camp for Brownies and I was there as a leader. We met the Guides from Rwanda who we have a partnership with. That was so impressive! From that moment on I realized Guiding was even bigger than I thought and that there are no borders for us, so I decided to join the national working group on our partnership with Rwanda and now my heart is really in to this.

I grew as a person because of all the experiences I gained from this work. Last September I finally went to Rwanda. It was the most impressive experience in my Guiding life, to see what Guiding means to other people, what they are doing and how they change the world for the better. I now have friends from all over the world and we all have one thing in common: our love to Guiding and our wish to change the world.

So I moved on collecting more experiences and worked as a volunteer in Our Chalet in Switzerland. I attended some sessions of the Helen Storrow Seminar and I made it to Sangam to attend the Juliette Low Seminar. I still can’t believe that this is true and can’t imagine how my life would be without Guiding.

Alisa, The Hong Kong Girl Guides Association

I first joined the Guiding family as a Brownie when I was nine. At that time, the little me had no idea what Guiding is all about. I was just solely attracted by the smart uniform.

When I participated in various activities and trainings I started to realize that there is much more to Girl Guiding: it enhances values like honesty and trustworthiness and helps to develop courage and resilience when facing challenges. In short, the Guiding programme is unique because it touches on many aspects of personality development, which enables girls to become outstanding leader, caring people and strong personalities.

I really like our educational programme. Our Guider seldom teaches us through spoon-feeding; instead, she lets us learn through personal experience. I am very fortunate to have tons of opportunities to participate in and organize various activities and I feel that through this experience my leadership and social skills have improved.

GUIDING IS FUN!!!

Tina, Fiji Girl Guides Association

I remember vividly seeing the Trefoil logo on one of my mother’s books at home back in 1986. I used to wonder what it symbolizes. Then came the day when I became a Brownie. Later, when I was a Guide, it finally sank in what the trefoil stands for: the adventure, fun and challenge of Girl Guiding.

Since we live on a small island we used to go out in patrols to collect firewood and cook our meals on open fire. I always enjoyed the activities, the rhymes and the songs which I am now teaching my children in school and of course the camps.

My Guiding experience has helped me in my role as a leader, a teacher, a wife and a mother, and ultimately as a responsible citizen.

MARHABA! This is a hello in Arabic.

Well, Guiding made a difference in my personality, it allowed me to accept the others as they are and to be more open to their culture!

Guiding brings the real me out that is spontaneous. I don’t worry about anything when I am with other Guides because I know we share the same spirit and have the same thoughts. Hope everyone will have the same experience that I got here at Sangam!
