‘The Right to Food’: WAGGGS celebrates World Food Day 2007
Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world celebrated World Food Day on 16 October under the theme ‘The Right to Food’. World Food Day is organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. We encourage you to organize a World Food Day event in your city, town or village! You still have time! Have a look at the suggested ideas at the bottom of the page or check the events calendar on the FAO website.
WAGGGS, as part of the International Alliance Against Hunger (IAAH), participated in the exhibit organized by the FAO in
WAGGGS and the FAO
As part of the ongoing ‘Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger’ initiative, WAGGGS and the FAO have joined forces to raise awareness about hunger and the right to food among children and young people around the world.
On World Food Day 2006, the cartoon-style story book The Right to Food: A Window on the World was launched to educate young people and motivate them to join in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. The illustrations, planned and drawn by Girl Guides and art students from Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jordan, Sierra Leone and Uganda, convey national differences in culture, lifestyles, food habits and living conditions. The book is available in six languages. If you would like to have a copy, please write to RTF-youth@fao.org.
WAGGGS and the FAO have also launched a Nutrition Award to acknowledge the outstanding results from selected field projects on nutrition around the world. Several WAGGGS Member Organizations have been awarded and WAGGGS’ contribution is acknowledged in official FAO documents.
UN Team in Rome
The UN team, Rome, WAGGGS’ permanent representation at the FAO, is supporting this year’s World Food Day at FAO headquarters. The team co-organizes key events and works with FAO and other institutional/non-governmental organizations.

Our troop is collecting coats and blankets for the homeless, since this winter will be harsh due to the living conditions here in Michigan,U.S.A.
Hunger is such a big issue that effects the whole world. It would be nice to get more people involved with the cause.
